Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 10, 2026
MyOrderGuide (“we”, “us”) helps you decide what to eat. This policy explains what information we handle, why, and the choices you have. The short version: most of your data stays on your device, we don’t sell personal information, and we use a small set of service providers to make the product work.
Where we operate
MyOrderGuide is operated from the United States and is intended for users in the United States. We do not currently offer, market, or direct our services to users in the European Union, EEA, or United Kingdom. If you access the service from those regions, you do so on your own initiative and your information will be processed in the United States.
Information we collect
Stored on your device (localStorage): your food preferences (goals, dietary restrictions, cuisines, budget, spice tolerance), your feedback on recommendations (thumbs up/down), and usage events such as which modes you pick. This data lives in your browser; clearing site data removes it.
Location: if you allow browser geolocation or enter a ZIP code, we use your approximate location to search for nearby restaurants. Location is used to serve your request and appears in short-lived server logs; we don’t build a location history for you.
Menu photos: if you use the menu scanner, the photo you capture is sent to our AI provider to read the menu, used to generate your recommendation, and not used to identify you.
Account information (optional): if you sign in with Google, we store your name, email address, and the data you create while signed in — saved preferences, cook plans, recommendation history, and group ordering sessions.
How we use information
To generate food and recipe recommendations, remember your preferences, run group ordering sessions, keep the service secure (rate limiting, abuse prevention), and understand aggregate usage so we can improve the product. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we don’t use your data for third-party advertising.
Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies:
- Essential cookies — a session cookie when you sign in, and a group-session cookie when you join a group order. The service doesn’t work without these.
- Google Analytics — sets cookies (
_ga,_ga_*) to help us understand page views and feature usage in aggregate. Google processes this data on our behalf; see Google’s privacy policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by using a content blocker. - Vercel Analytics — privacy-friendly, cookieless page-view counts from our hosting provider.
Who we share data with
Only service providers that operate the product for us: OpenAI (generating recommendations and reading menu photos), Google (Places restaurant search, sign-in, and Analytics), Vercel (hosting and analytics), and our database provider (account data). Each receives only what it needs to perform its function. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Your choices and rights
- Preferences & usage data: clear your browser’s site data for myorderguide.app to remove everything stored on your device.
- Location: deny the browser location prompt and use a ZIP code instead — or nothing at all.
- Analytics: opt out via the Google Analytics add-on linked above.
- Account data: email us to access or delete the data associated with your account. We honor requests under applicable US state privacy laws (including the CCPA/CPRA), and we don’t discriminate against you for exercising them. Since we don’t sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is nothing to opt out of on that front.
Data retention
Device data stays until you clear it. Account data is kept while your account is active and deleted on request. Server logs are retained briefly for debugging and security, then discarded.
Children
MyOrderGuide is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we’ll update this page and the date above. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
